Calculation of alpha particles detection efficiency for polycarbonate detector using Geant4 toolkit

In the present work, alpha particles detection efficiency of polycarbonate detector (PC) is calculated using Geant4 simulation toolkit. A PC with 250 µm thickness and dimension 2.5 × cm2 considered. Assuming passage an 241Am source through brass collimators different lengths, various energies ranging from 0.2 to MeV are modeled. Also, etching layer 6 related a given electrochemical process as well threshold stopping power 240 keV µm-1 required for forming tracks used input data. The determined ratio registered per unit area number reaching surface. To validate simulation, results compared experimental data reported in literature. It found that both agree within maximum variation 10%.
